Sandy Wagner is a calligrapher, artist and music engraver who maintains a studio in Indianapolis, IN, where she lives with her husband Doug, a professional composer.
Early in her career as a high school choral director, Sandy enrolled in a local calligraphy class for fun and was instantly hooked. Now as a professional lettering artist with more than 35 years of experience, she utilizes the techniques and design philosophies gleaned from her studies with many internationally recognized calligraphers and artists. She has designed covers for major music publishers, produced and exhibited award-winning art, and taught adult continuing studies courses in calligraphy. Her work was recently chosen for the 2010 Letter Arts Review Annual Juried Issue and she has written several educational articles for Bound & Lettered.
Over the past several years, Sandy has expanded her artistic media to include bookmaking, drawing, pastels, watercolor, mixed media and collage. She is always seeking new ways to incorporate these into her calligraphic expressions.
She holds memberships in The Calligraphy Guild of Columbus (OH), The Calligraphy Guild of Indiana, Carolina Lettering Arts Society, The Chicago Calligraphy Collective, Cincinnati Book Arts Society (CBAS), CLAS (UK), The Friends of Calligraphy (San Francisco, CA), International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting (IAMPETH) and The Washington Calligraphers Guild (DC).
